The IPU 144th Assembly held in Nusa Dua, Indonesia from 20th to 24th March 2022, was attended by parliamentarians from 110 member parliaments. The theme for the Assembly was ‘Getting to zero: Mobilizing parliaments to act on climate change’. During the Assembly lasting 5 days, 100 MPs shared their own countries’ experience of the effects of climate change. Many spoke of the serious consequences of climate change on the health of their populations, both now and for future generations.
The Assembly adopted the Nusa Dua Declaration, in which the representatives of the world’s parliamentarians recognized the urgent need to address climate crisis. Parliaments worldwide pledged to build green investment and low-carbon activities into their COVID-19 pandemic recovery packages. Such actions could help to decrease pollution, protect biodiversity and, in turn, allow for healthier and more sustainable lives.
